Instructions For Use

I. First Step in using your AA:

If this is your first time using your AA, observe the location of its features and how the tools work. Open and close the blades five times to develop a feel of how it moves, and you can move with it set. Practice looking through the actual blades and then their capturing slits. Consider placing a practice sketch on a piece of paper with initial use, (for many art forms, use a sheet equal in size to the support you may use to create your art). While practicing, follow the instructions below. How to hold the AA, below at this time.

How to the AA:

  1. With the longest portion of the blades pointed upward. Gently grasp the instrument, so the metal "rivet" initially rests between your fingertips and the longest part of the blades is pointed upward.
  2. The artist extends their arm(s) towards their desired subjects.
  3. Open the AA like a "Smile". Move the blades closest to you, "A" (the tip with the AA logo in it), slightly towards your left, and the one labeled "B" towards your right.

II. How to use the AA for each creation:

  1. From this position, directly face your upper body toward your subject.
  2. Follow the directions explained earlier, "How to hold the AA".
  3. Set one blade to a relative vertical (for example), and line up the center of the object in the center groove of the blade.
  4. Then rotate the second blade to line up with the middle of the second shape - for example,  an edge of a shape/plane of an object could be used.
  5. Then this relationship between the two objects will be captured and held in position - if not directly touched; the blades remain set for some time.
  6. Adjust your upper body to directly face the support onto which you will sketch the captured relationship. Consider placing a practice sketch on a piece of paper with initial use. Equal in size to where you plan to create your art, a sketch pad, paper for painting, canvas, molding material for a 3D sculpture, or actors for choreography in performing arts.
  7. The artists sketching may place graphite or charcoal sticks within the middle groove to place marks to delineate the edges - or other relationships captured.
  8. Likewise, a painter may paint marks to define the relationship, also within the middle and distal ends slits - of each blade. Upon completing AA use, follow the instructions for "Care of AA".

III. Care of Artist's Angle

Cleaning agents are typically used for the art mediums mentioned, which are safe to use, when used in a typical manner, on the Artist's Angle.

- Will not discolor nor affect transparency significantly.

  1. Soap and water.
  2. Sanitary hand wipes.
  3. Rubbing alcohol and,
  4. Turpentine-based products.

After using any harsh agents, such as alcohol or turpentine-based products - please wash the cleaning solution off with soap and water, before drying and storing the device.

Store and use the AA in a respectful manner, avoiding bending and placing extremely uneven pressure on the device.

- It's made of acrylic which may fracture resulting in sharp pieces. The device edges may be sharp, so caution in its care and use is emphasized to avoid injury.

Do not give the AA to children because of the risks of injury.

Please go to Martha Gallery to contact the manufacturer if any questions arise.
